What do you need in an antivirus? Which antivirus is best? How much does it cost? 

Consider this: More than half of the computer calls I get are caused by some form of a malicious program that has infiltrated the computer. You need to be protected but there are so many choices. Which one should you choose?

Norton antivirus is a very popular antivirus programs. However, Norton has in recent years become so huge and full of useless programs that not only does it fail to recognize a lot of viruses, it also slows down the computer tremendously. That being said, I’ve also had calls to where the computer is actually no longer operational once a new version of Norton has been installed or it has slowed the computer down so much that it becomes basically unusable.

If your Norton is due to expire soon, please...DON’T RENEW IT! You will slow down your computer or make it unusable.

I recommend a program called NOD32. NOD32 has been tested by independent testers at www.virusbulletin.com and has never failed in catching an “in the wild” virus. It is a smaller program and therefore does not noticeably slow down your computer. For comparison, it takes 30 minutes and up to install Norton’s protection and NOD32 can be installed in less than 30 seconds.

How much does it cost? Much less than Norton! Here’s the breakdown of the price:

The renewal rates are also much cheaper than Norton and you don’t have to worry about being pushed to download a more expensive and more intrusive version.
